I'm looking to buy a new TV for my room in the next few months (sometime in April, possibly May), and I'm trying to do my research. I don't want anything larger then 20". 720p vs 1080p isn't really a huge deal to me, I won't have HD cable or anything.

Anywho, I know about the "major" brands, but I keep coming across a brand called Skyworth and I can't really find any reviews on them. That pretty much tells me to steer clear, but I figured I would check the fountain of knowledge that is O&O

i've never heard of that brand or seen them in stores. i'm not too far from you either so that's odd. where have you seen that, stacey?

I saw one today while I was in Target, and they've also come up on Amazon searches. I was trying to see if maybe they were made by a big name or..well I'm not sure, but now I'm all curious and such.

i agree. i wouldn't risk a large purchase like a TV on a brand you've never heard of.

That's pretty much what I figured.

My front runners are Vizio(we have a 26" at the beach), Sony, and Samsung

sony is going to cost the most. i have two samsungs and am happy with both. i've heard good things about vizio.

check out walmart vs. target. you can get some better tv's for a lot less. you don't have to go sony or samsung to have a decent tv; but the one you just named is a super unheard of. if i was closer i'd go shopping witcha....i love looking at tv's.

I did get one for my Birthday a few years ago (I believe it was 2..maybe 3)...however the aforementioned lil bro (see Sandy you knew he was involved somehow lol) knocked it off the stand a few months back and now I have a nice line down the left side of my TV. It seems to be getting worse and it's annoying as all get out to watch. Oh and I would totally come to Georgia and we could go TV shopping!

Samsung is the top rated brand right now. Sony's are like #2, and have better sound. Vizio sold more sets then Samsung last quarter, but are not as highly rated, not saying they are bad though

i love my sanyo...no problem with sound and the internal parts are supposedly made by samsung; don't know and don't care. i judged tvs by standing away from them so i can't tell who the manufacturer is and deciding what "look" appeals to me in picture quality. i've heard people say they hate plasmas but they actually appeal to me. i surprised myself in every store standing back looking at the pictures, i picked the sanyo out every time. that's when i decided it was the one for me. i'm extremely happy with it.
my other flat screen is an off brand hooked up to an hd box and also has a great pic but bad on sound. the cable guy that hooked everything up for me said it was the same tv as sony. dunno...i'm happy with them both.

Whatever model you pick, just remember that with the economy in the shitter, you hold the power to negotiate. Use it.
