Maggie has been eating grass like a cow...just mowing down the field like crazy. Then she gags and throws up. The throw up is like foam, but a bunch of it with a little bit of grass in it. This all started the day after I gave her the rawhide and she threw that up. Don't know if it has had anything to do with it or not. She eats just fine, plays fine, and acts normal other than when she is not playing she is mowing the lawn! And we live on 90 acres. She did this last year also. Any suggestions?

Many Labs love to graze on grass, especially in the spring.

Many (including my Puff) eat it without ever/seldom throwing it back up.

A few throw it up regularly.

Some are in between.

Bauer eats grass, but not like you are describing. When we are in the yard he will sometimes take a couple quick bites of grass (like he is pulling out a blade or two). He does like to "graze" the long grass along the woods (but usually only if it is over grown and has seeds on top). It has never made him throw up, but I know it does that to a lot of dogs.

She did do this last spring. It seems like the only time she does this is in the spring. I thought maybe she had an upset stomach, but she is still eating. I was tempted to not feed her, but she was begging. (typical lab) She ate her food and didn't throw it up. But after I let her back out and she went back to grazing she threw up the foam again.

I put her on the deck for the day so she couldn't get to the grass area today. We'll see how she does.

I do remember one thing about her grazing last year that we had to take her to the vet for. She kept coughing and the vet told me that the grass had cut her throat. I hope that doesn't happen this year. I better keep her away from the grass.

Some dogs eat grass when their stomachs are upset, so maybe she's doing it because her stomach isn't 100% after throwing up that rawhide?

I would just watch her when she eats grass and not let her eat too much if it makes her throw up.

Abbey will eat a few pieces every now and then but she has never thrown up because of it.
