Next month, SU and I are renting an RV and going to the Grand Canyon. Woo-hoo!

We’re staying at a campsite on the South Rim, because Sundance will be with us. Dogs aren’t allowed on the North Rim trails, but they are on the perimeter trails around the South Rim.

We realize having Sunny D with us means we’ll be pretty limited in what we can do. Dogs can’t go into the canyon at all and are excluded from most of the excursions. There is a kennel near where we’re staying, but I don’t want to count on utilizing it until we check it out. If it looks alright, perhaps we’ll park him there for a couple of hours while we take a mule ride or something. But if it seems poorly run, we won’t do it. And that’s okay. It’s more important to us that we share this road trip adventure with Sundance. As long as we get some good photos and fun memories out of it, we’re happy.

Has anyone here ever gone to the GC with their dog? Are three nights there too much time? Would you recommend the ranger-led hikes around the rim? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. Cadey. We're in Northern Cal., so our only stop along the way will probably be in the Mojave somewhere, possibly Barstow. I'm eyeing a campsite that's near a Ghost Town and mining-era cemetery.

We rented an RV and took Thunder & Simba with us!
Cool! Great minds think alike.

Yeah, baby. Barstow! If you want to appreciate Stockton or Modesto, Barstow is definitely the place to go.
Oh, it's a happenin' place, alright. I just want to be able say we were somewhere around there when the drugs took hold. :p
