What ever happened to the idea of a bell? Shadow was out most of the day. She's too big to get anything (I hope) and has a quick release collar with a bell.

I saw a beautiful Cardinal on the fence today and I'd be really upset if she ever managed to catch it.

Eek! That snake makes me so glad that my cat only brings birds and mice (so far). Other than one bird in the house, she's been kind enough to leave the rest on the porch step.

Is the snake still alive, Nance?

It is a harmless grass snake isn't it? I would be getting Hope a bell real fast. The snake wouldn't bother me but I enjoy watching the birds. Or are those the black birds that are so agressive and not native to the US that are spreading across the country? If they are you keep right on hunting them Hope.

Those black birds are grackles, they are bullies, and there is no short supply of them around here. I think they even intimidate the blue jays. Since they seem to be the only birds Hope goes after I say FINE. Go get 'em, Hopi Cat!

The little garden snakes I'm getting used to. I used to be an EEKS! girl about seeing them but I'm learning not to be. The one in the picture was alive, protecting itself by coiling up like that. I got the broom to whoosh it out the door and as soon as the bristles touched it? It did that fascinating "sidewinder" slither across the floor for a little way then I escorted it outside.

I really don't like snakes of any kind! The trail I use to run on always had loads of water snakes, harmless but they were big and would not budge so you'd have to run around them. There were also poisionous water moccasins that look very similar to the harmless ones, but I never saw one...at least I don't think I did!

Dave - any snake larger than the ones Hope brings in still gets the EEK! response from me. :)

I had one of those snakes try and make a home in my cabinet last year, although it was just a baby.

Nick - wasn't that the snake that fell into your cereal bowl?!? That would get an eek AND a barf out of me.

Last year I was running, and saw a BIG snake on the side of the road. I went 2 miles farther to avoid going past that spot again, sure it would have been gone when I came back . . . but I wasn't taking any chances! Snakes scare the crap out of me!
