I've found that it will only change on the forum page if no one has replied to the post yet. One time I was able to get it to work, but there were no replies (maybe no one had even read it yet and that's the trigger). Yesterday I tried it on an active post of mine and it didn't change.

When I tried changing the title it only changed the title inside the post...not on the thread list.

That's what I was trying to say. Except on the one post of mine that didn't have any replies yet.
