Very early this morning. It is thrilling to actually see them soar off the nest for the very first time, but if you miss that flight it is kind of sad. You just never know if they'll return to the nest. Last year's pair did, for a week or so, and then they were gone. I missed this year's single bird take off and now I don't know if I'll ever see her again. *sob*

It won't be long before this eaglet heads to the far north to spend the stifling months of July and August in cooler climes. Most likely in the Great Lakes region, but some go as far north as Alaska.

She was an absolute beauty! And ENORMOUS! I believe she even outsized her mother (females are larger than males).

bye-bye birdie!

:( :)

I missed this one completely. Were these on a live webcam, Nance? I think you posted it last year, too. Sorry, my memory fails me often. :p

We were in Alaska in Aug, 05. I had no idea that so many eagles could be in one area. All along the coast line we were able to see 1,2,3, maybe 10 in flight at any one time. Fishing must be good there.

Oh SUPER vid, Robert! Thanks very much for putting it up here.
The guy did a nice job filming... Hitchcock would have approved.

Oh this is sad! One of the adults just brought a big fish to the nest for the baby... but... baby isn't there. Oh that just makes me want to cry for some reason. :(

I wish the guy taking the video had made his kids stay away from the eagles! That was aggravating, them chasing the birds like that. Isn't it illegal to harrass them like that?

I would be more worried about one of the kids being attacked by an older Eagle for chasing the young.

I think it is illegal to touch them not sure what the law is for chasing.
