Very early this morning. It is thrilling to actually see them soar off the nest for the very first time, but if you miss that flight it is kind of sad. You just never know if they'll return to the nest. Last year's pair did, for a week or so, and then they were gone. I missed this year's single bird take off and now I don't know if I'll ever see her again. *sob*
It won't be long before this eaglet heads to the far north to spend the stifling months of July and August in cooler climes. Most likely in the Great Lakes region, but some go as far north as Alaska.
She was an absolute beauty! And ENORMOUS! I believe she even outsized her mother (females are larger than males).
