We have directv and have 2 TVs hooked up to the same satellite. My mom has 5 boxes hooked up to 1 satellite.
Our HDTV has a built in digital tuner and we get over the air waves fine, though we don't usually do that because of the directv. If you are still using an older TV it is probably your antenna, as Nick mentioned.
