Has anyone ever detox their body before? With the issues with food regulations, I get worried in what is truly in our food and drinks. So I was looking up ways to detox my body of the harsh chemicals I consume everyday.

What are your thoughts on this?

Start eating a proper diet and this will take care of itself. I've never been able to see the upside of drinking juice mixtures until you get diarrhea.

Bad chinese will detox the body!

I know a few folks who did the juice detox and the high colonic treatment. IMO, the only thing that was cleansed was their wallet.

Um, I never saw one of those in person, but they are on a lot of the testimonials. Supposedly that is what comes out. If you know what I mean.

I've done a cleanse before. See your doctor or homeopathic specialist first if it's your first time. You don't have to, it's just a suggestion. Ther are proper ways and...not so proper ways.

I have been told by my doctor that your body is built with a detox center (your liver) and that fiber and healthy foods is the best way to keep your body healthy. He told me there is no such thing as detoxing your body. Who knows (keep in mind he was NOT a homeopathic doc).

My understanding is the same as Giuli's--that "detoxing" is largely nonsense. Notice how these people never tell you what, exactly, these "toxins" are?

As for that huge pile of crap, from what I understand, the "cleansing" products contain enormous amounts of fiber, and so what you are eliminating, which they call "toxins," is all the fiber and water you've ingested. The intestine is a mucosal membrane and is self-regenerating. There's no way you could build up all of that in your intestine. When you do, it's called a blockage and makes you extremely sick.

I should say that apparently there is some evidence that the body's pH can get a bit off if you eat too much meat and too few veggies (called subclinical acidosis). But you don't need to "detox" to fix it, you just need to eat less meat and more fruits and veggies.

Also, there is some truth to the "toxins" theory in that there is research (real research, not hippie research) that fat-soluble chemicals like organochlorines do get absorbed into fat cells. But what this has to do with common theories of "detoxing," I have no idea. The only way I know to release toxins stored in fat cells would be to lose weight--thus mobilizing the toxins. Great, then you have toxins floating around your bloodstream. Seems like a lose-lose proposition.

The solution isn't cleansing, its to stop eating the crappy food that puts the chemicals into your body in the first place! lol!

That would be a doctor reccommended "cleanse". limited red meat, more fatty fish, brightly colored & leafy green
veg, increase water and fibre and get off your ass. works like a charm without pooping out pinch collars, lol! Mine involved some fasting, but nothing outrageous, 24 hrs.
