Ok dd is playing summer jam(basketball). She has played since she was 5, she is 14 now. They are playing girls from all other schools, all high school age.

My dd is the tallest and the biggest girl on her team. Last night after the game which they lost big time 52-7!! The regular coach had to be at another game that was going on at the same time before dd game was over so that left the asst. coach there for the last 2 minutes of the game.

Well anyway after the game was over the asst. coach and team of girls always have a chat. I heard her(asst coach) say basically that if you can't get in shape then quit. DD said that was directed mostly at her.....

Needless to say that ticked dd off and really made my mom instinct of wanting to kick asst coach's butt rage start. Now I know dd does need to lose weight , she has struggled with this for about 4 years.

I just really don't know what to do and dd is now down on herself...

Totally uncalled for! I would go the head coach & discuss this with him/her. If you do not get any satisfaction, then go higher in the organization.

As a head coach myself, if one of my assistants made a comment like that I would want to know about it so I can address it. (I am speaking from experience on this one, I am not only head cheereleading coach, but also the cheerleading coordinator and the President of my Catholic church's CYO organization.)

Teenagers stress enough about their appearances, they do not need some dumbass insensitive coach adding to it with comments like that.

OMG! If I had heard that, I would have flipped out. Nobody has the right to hurt a child's self-esteem. I overheard a hockey coach tell my then 9 year old son (he is 11 now) that he was playing like a *****, and I totally went into momma bear mode.

When I was a kid/teenager I was a competetive gymnast, and had coaches criticize every part of my body and physical condition. It took me years and years to get over that. Although I didn't show it, it crushed my self-esteem.
