I went to lunch today with a friend. She is a victims specialist with the FBI here at the state office. She brought along a friend of hers who is a forensic computer analyst with the Division of Criminal Investigations for South Dakota. We got to talking about internet crimes.

Very scary stuff. It brought tears to my eyes more than once. I'm way too trusting of people. It really opened my eyes. I'm definitely gonna delete some stuff I have available on the web. I was recommended to visit netsmartz.org to help inform my children so I will be checking that out.

The missing girl from Portugal also started another conversation. You can go to your local FBI office or if you dont live near one, most police stations have them, and get child identification kits. Its inkless fingerprinting and an envelope to keep your child's DNA (hair, fingernail clipping, etc). You keep these and pray you never need them.

Just thought I'd pass this info on. It was one lunch I was sure glad I had!

When I was a victim of an Internet crime back in 1996 the FBI asked me what the Internet was. :

One of the reasons I have a PO Box is so I can use it on the Internet. Since I was stalked its pretty rare that anyone gets my real address.

Laura, with the way the internet is today you can still be found. I think its ridiculous that one can be found so easily on the internet. Especially with maps given right to your house.

Same here. It wouldn't take too much effort to locate me if someone wanted to,thank God no one is that interested in us.

I am troubled by the Facebook and Myspace users. It seems like everyday I hear something negative surrounding Myspace. Young people put their whole lives on display and I can't see where that is a good thing.
