We finally watched Prince Caspian the movie this week. (We've been on the wait list at the library since the dawn of time.)

I never read The Chronicles of Narnia. There's a pretty cheap boxed set in Riley's last Scholastic book club order of the school year. I think I'll get them.

I didn't read Bridge to Terabithia until I was an adult.

Have never read Where the Red Fern Grows.

It seems I went straight from little kid books to Danielle Steel and Stephen King and skipped the stuff in between.

So what else needs to go on my list?

The Phantom Tollbooth.

As a word-nerd kid, I loved that book.

Be very careful with this one. No reading while PMS'ing or they will have to mop you up off the floor, don't have an extra glass of wine before reading or the sobbing will wake your neighbors, no reading in front of anybody who already thinks you might be the least bit emotionally unstable to begin with.

I keep meaning to go back and read Watership Down but haven't gotten to it yet.

Jules Verne - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

And what's that series of books that is updating the Peter Pan genre w/backstory? Peter and the Starcatchers or something? Dave Barry (humorist) is a co-author.

Inkheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath are pretty good.
I haven't gotten around to reading them yet, but Jakob really enjoys the City of Ember books.
They're making a Ramona movie right now, and those books were always favorites of mine as a kid. :)
Anne of Green Gables series if you haven't read them.
Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events

These are very young books, but How to Eat Fried Worms, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Amelia Bedelia, Junie B. Jones, Magic Tree House books, the Fudge books, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are all favorites around here.

Never could read Alice.

Maybe Lewis Carroll's writing under the influence of drugs had something to do w/it.....

ooh forgot Lord of the Rings books and Eragon
The Secret Garden
Charlotte's Web
Pippi Longstockings
The Borrowers
Alice in Wonderland
Little Women

I also have books with Grimm's Fairytales, Hans Christian Anderson Fairytales, and Aesop's Fables. They were mine when I was little, and the boys really enjoy them now. I'd say they're worth a look since the stories are still interesting. :)

Yeah, my lists are in about a 8-10 year age range for the most part because that's all I've been listening to this year! lol Our local library has a reading contest, and the kid that accumulates the most points this summer wins a $500 scholarship (by age groups). Jake is determined to win this so I'm sure I can add more since he's reading "older" children's literature now and not so much Junie B. Jones and Magic Tree House books (not that those aren't cute stories too!).

I just got done telling my boss he should read Watership Down. I think I'll re-read that one. I loved it.
