Such a dilemma for a lab. My SILs went out back to smoke after they finished eating so both dogs went with them and my nephew started throwing the tennis ball with the chuck-it and kicking Cinnamon's soccer ball. Well I made their dinner bowls (kibble with a little ham and cheesecake). I call them and Cierra comes running in to eat no response from Cinnamon. After calling her a couple more times she comes dashing in, smells her food, looks at me like but mom I have someone to play with me and dashes back out. About 5 minute later when Michael stops throwing her ball she comes in and sits on her bed waiting for her food....which of course I gave her.

I guess the urge to retrieve is greater than the urge to eat.

That experiment would have been a split decision in my house...

Emma would take the boy with the ball anyday and Aidan its not even a contest...ham and cheesecake?

HA! I can picture that. It would be a tough call at my house too. Murray is a retrieving fool. ;D

Ooooh, tough decision here too. I think Henery would wolf down his food, then retrieve... :D
