My DH has an allotment (piece of land for growing fruit/veg) and this weekend we are getting 6 rescued battery hens to put on it..we have a fox proof house and run for them and I cant wait!

Some of these girls come out bald and some cant even stand so Im not sure what state they will be in.

Nothing cuter than baby chicks. We had chickens growing up - my parents still have them. Once when he was little, my brother got pecked on the nose by one so he hates them now! lol

We wont be having babys as we arent allowed a cockerel because of the nearby residents. The chickens we are getting are about 18 months old, lived in a cage size of an A3 piece of paper, 3-4 hens to a cage, stood on wire in the dark to keeo them quiet. They eat one end and lay the other end its so so sad

one of Canada's big cities (vancouver) just made chickens legal - I hope Toronto follows suit soon !

aww...poor chickens. I'm glad they're coming to you. My parents have a lot of acreage so our chickens run all over the place and go to their coops at night. It was funny how scared the dogs were of them.

Our neighbours two doors down have chickens, complete with cockerel. That bird is LOUD!

We are considering chickens if we can build a secure enough (read: dog proof) enclosure.

Maybe Colin everyone in the UK seems to be getting chickens lately! lol And its taken us a month or more to get hold of any they are like gold dust!

I have enough turkey doo in the yard already without adding chickens to the pile. Libby used to love to eat the turkey crap. Yuk!

It is abuse but because theres a igh demand for cheap meat and eggs in this country they are used as egg making machines
