I am a CGC Evaluator, have been since the inception of the program. I'm getting sick of constantly having to pay to renew this. Do Judges have to pay to renew their "judging" status? Curious to know. I'm thinking AKC is just milking money from me. I'm not going to renew again. I've only given the test a couple of times as it is, it's not a big thing for my students (focus is mainly agility).

I always renew mine even though I have someone else come in and do the test that is also a TDI tester. For me it is another thing like being a member of the National Association of Obedience Instructors. I also have my certificate hanging no the wall. Just adds some credibility in pet peoples eyes. Also some areas are beginning to require CGC testing, too. Both of my boys have their CGC's which isn't much to me but I have had a hotel (Four Points Sherton) ask if Caleb (the only one we had at the time) had his CGC and they waved all the pet fees! Ended up being cheaper to stay there than the Motel 6 next door with their pet fees! I also have the CGC ID tag for the boys so when we do travel I have it on them.

I gave mine up a couple years ago despite our club actually paying the fees that time (as they needed a cert'd person to give the test at an event). We now have another member who is current on her cert and that is fine by me. IMO, a CGC evaluator has far more to risk than to gain but AKC isn't seeing it that way. Like other things, they just keep milking whereever they can. And no, I don't believe judges have an annual type fee but they sure have alot of expenses in education seminars and travel when applying for new breeds. They have to really love what they are doing.
