Captain Kangaroo

Don't know why I'm remembring Captain Kangaroo today.

Bunny Rabbit.

Mr. Moose and his ping-pong balls. And Knock-Knock jokes.

Dancing Bear. Grandfather Clock. Tom Terrific.

The bouncy theme song.

And the Kellogg's sponsorship. They'd have a bowl of cornflakes on a little train, and it would come up to a water tower, but instead of water coming out, it was milk.

When I was home sick as a kid, there was nothing more comforting than the Captain reading "Make Way for Ducklings."

And Hard Rock, Coco and Joe...weren't they on Captain Kangaroo too around Christmas?

The Captain was a favorite of mine!
Mr. Green Jeans and Grandfather Clock...
I was checking out "old toy" sites yesterday....love those trips down memory lane :D
I just loved Tom Terrific and his dog Wonder? Wasn't that his name? I think I'd like to name a dog that.
For you, Nance...

Partly right: it was Mighty Manfred, the Wonder Dog

And who can forget Tom's nasty nemesis.....Crabby Appleton.
Does anyone here remember Winky Dink, where you put a piece of plastic over the screen and colored on it?
When the kids are in a foul mood and I want to try to tease them out of it, I *still* call them Crabby Appletons.

I was too young. But there's piece of family lore that says that my eldest brother used to watch Winky Dink and You, and during one episode, skipped the part about putting the plastic sheet on the TV screen, thereby drawing on the tube directly.

Again, as I say, I have no memory of this and can neither confirm nor deny.

Winky Dink was on again in the late 60's. Different version I believe. I was still in elementary school.

me too.. all the ones I saw were in color :D
That's because you're a young pup MWG. Us baby boomers came in with black and white.

I also miss the old cartoons like Yogi Bear with his buddy Boo Boo, Huckleberry Hound, all those were funny and no violence. And who can forget Quick Draw McGraw and his friend Baba Looey. And of course those loony birds Heckle and Jeckle.
