Rachel went in for a routine colonoscopy yesterday. She called me last night, saying she was in intense pain. Thought it was gas, and didn't think much more about it.

This morning, Rachel's husband came in from outside to find her passed out on the floor. After an ambulance ride to the hospital, the admitting ER doc found that her colon had been perforated during yesterday's colonoscopy! She is in surgery right now to repair the perforation, so that's good, but the major concern now is septicema as it has been over 24 hours since the colonoscopy.

I am so sad and worried for my dear, sweet SIL.

Oh gosh, very best wishes to your SIL. I always thought that they could tell right away if they had perforated the bowel, but I guess not. I'm due to go for one this year. :-\ I hope your SIL is okay.
