What is the best lens for getting every day snap shots of more than one person?

I was taking photos at a family gathering yesterday, I used my 50mm. I'm just wondering what other lens may come in handing for group shots?

You've got choices--a wide angle lens (35mm) is great for taking group pictures. With a wide-angle zoom (16 to 35 mm), you've got a lot of choices. With a 50mm, there's always the problem of leaving someone out unless you "arrange" the participants.

I generally use my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for these occasions. The lens is tack sharp and always seems to produce nice color and images. Plus, it is a racehorse in low-light environments.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I"ll look into them.

And Jimbo- I am seriously considering a new point and shoot. I traded mine in when I got my Dslr and I've regretted it ever since.
