Bully stick question

For those who give their dogs bully sticks...when there are just two or three inches left of the stick, do you take it away? SU and I were slow on the draw yesterday and Sundance wolfed down the last stub of one before we could confiscate it. Fortunately, he threw it up, so we didn't have to worry about a blockage.

But now SU is thinking he might be able to find some sort of hard plastic thing to put on the end of a bully stick to keep Sun from inhaling the last bit. I'm afraid he might swallow something like that, too, and think we just need to watch him more closely and take the chewie away when it's dangerously small.

What do you guys think?

I would think a small hard plastic thing would be more dangerous.

I used to take Zoe's stick away when it got to about 2"; now, I let her swallow it. She hasn't had any problems, but that's Zoe.
I wouldn't put the plastic thing on, in the long run it could cost you much much more.
Olie
I take Rowan's away... just to avoid any incidents.
Tal chews his all the way and so it hasn't been an issue yet. I'd either take it away or let Sun finish it..I'd think a plastic thing would be more dangerous.
Thunder swallowed a 6" piece of Bully stick and digested it fully. It was quite a concern though! I now use a bully stick holder made by Kong (rubber)...
Rogie just eats the whole thing, but he generally chews it all up.
Cinnamon chews the whole thing she has never been one to swallow things even toys she destuffs and shreds.
I let mine just eat it. If they swallow the small leftover end, I don't know...it's never caused problems.

I would definately NOT do a plastic thingy on the end. That would definately end up being swallowed.
Another Bully Stick Question is -- Where can you get one without it costing a gazillion dollars for twenty minutes of chewing??

We love them at our house, but they are an occasional treat due to cost.

The cheapest place I've found for them is Costco. Their website doesn't list them, so I'll have to check tonight and see how much we paid for a bag.

They are soooo expensive most places.
I've noticed that you can sometimes find someone selling a whole case of them for wholesale prices on ebay.

Well they are costly but I get 6.5" premium (thicker) bully sticks from www.digit.com and found their prices to be pretty reasonable. It takes my girls almost the same amount of time to go through a smaller premium bully stick (more cost efficient) than a regular 10" bully stick. They chew them all the way down so I don't really worry about either of them swallowing parts of it.
I stopped giving to Mambo, but I always took away when they were small. He loved them.
I can let Abby have it down to the last piece, but Yeller will swallow that last chunk and wind up barfing every time, so I take hers away from her.
