Hi everyone -
I posted last week about my puppy Buddy who got parvo last week. Well he is recoverying from the parvo, but still cant walk. Here is a little summary of the past week:
Buddy - 4 mo lab - was diagnosed last Tuesday wth Parvo. He stayed at the vet until Thursday afternoon when I picked him up. While there - he had a hig fever 105-106 and it took awhile for them to get it down. Otherwise though - he had minimal vomiting and no diarreah. Thursday night he laid pretty much all night. I had to carry him to the car from the vet. They said he had walked but he couldnt walk when I picked him up. I assumed he been laying for 3 days and so weak. Friday still could not walk but was eating, drinking and could hold up head and would lay on stomach and look around. Even showed signs of playing with me etc. Sat, he still could not walk, get up or anything. Saturday I took him to ER vet and they checked blood levels - all ok. Thinks he is just weak from illness and to give it more time since he seems alert, eating and drinking. Saturday night - he needed to poop so he got up - barely - but did and walked across yard to go. Sunday - he walked a tiny but again - very shaky. Monday - also was able to walk slowly (I had to pick him up to start) around house if I have treats. But gets tired and falls back down. His joints seem to hurt if you lightly squeeze on them. He seems very shaky. I took him back to my vet on Monday and they examined his joints and think he just has inflammed joints from being sick. This is very hard on me to see him just lay ALL day and not be able to get up or anything. I carry him (32lbs of lab) around the house, and out to pee. Since Monday - he doesnt really want to walk at all, and mostly lays. still eating and drinking ok.
MY question is - has anyone else's dog showed this type of recovery from Parvo? The vet said he almost died and is weak and will take time to gain his strength back. He is a lanky lab and skinny and all, but everything Ive read has no info on this and I cant find anyone with similar experience. The vet even said he hasnt seen it. Is it too soon? Any advice or experience is appreciated. Its breaking my heart to see him this way. Im losing hope he will recover. I know it takes awhile but I just dont know what to do.
Thank you - Christina
