I lived in a gated community but somehow stray dogs come in sometimes. There´s a couple of rather large boy and girl dogs that set residence inside for several months now.

I walk my dogs everyday and pass them by. They´ve learn to respect each other and pretty much ignore, but this morning (and I knew it was going to happen because the girl was in heat a couple months ago) I saw the female very very plump, which means she´s close to giving birth.

I´m sure some neighbor is feeding her, otherwise she wouldn´t have set territory there, but now I´m concerned that pups will be born right on the street, with all the consequences that it means (aggression to passersby, unhealthy pups, a colony of feral dogs, poop, etc.)

What would you do? If I call animal control the dogs will be killed, and the few humane associations in Mexico for sure are not going to take the soon to be mom...

I feel sorry for these dogs, but people that think that just by feeding them they are helping them really annoys me. Of course they are not going to be responsible for 8 pups or when the mom attacks someone, or giving them shots...

Very sad about the stray momma, but I think I would be adopting them myself until pups were born and then try to see if I couldn't find homes for them. Or call a rescue and see if they can help.

Good luck whatever you do and please keep us posted.

I called a couple of rescue organizations. One of them said they could help but they currently had no space for pups to be born. the other said plain no. They would pick the male but not the female.

I really can´t bring them into my house. I don´t have a secluded space for the mom and she would probably attack my dogs. It´s getting complicated, poor mom...
