I have a question regarding the amount of Benedryl you give your dog. I have an older issue of Labrador Quarterly and it has a chart that says you can give 2 mg per pound to your dog. The benedryl I have is 25 mg. tablets. Shane weighs 67 lbs. That would be about 134 mg (5 tablets)? That just doesn't sound right.

He is currently on Orijen fish dog food. He only seems to chew his feet and itch right about now when the pollen for trees and grass are high.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

We give Jake (33 kg) about 1 mg/lb - he gets three tablets. It affects all dogs differently though - I would try one or two to start, before going gangbusters with three.

(Benadryl also does nothing to help Jake's itching, it just makes him tired, which makes him stop itching when he sleeps)

Thank you for the reply, I'll start with two and see how he does.

My vet told me 1mg/lb for allergy kind of stuff, but for a bee bite kind of issue up to 2 mg/lb

I believe you CAN give up to 2mg/lb... But from what I have been told 1mg/lb is ideal... My girl is 60lbs and I give her 2/25mg pills twice a day...

Thank you for all the answers. I did double check the Labrador Quarterly and it does say 2 mg per lb. every 8 hours, but I will stick with the 2 - 25 mg. tablets, since he's 67 lbs.

thanks again.

3 - 25 mg every 8 hrs was recently prescribed for our dog who weighs 78 lbs. We could give more frequently if needed.
