We brought Riley into our home about 1 1/2 years ago. What a blessing he has been to our family. BUT, his breath is bad and when he kisses you then your hands, arms, face have an odor from his tongue licking you. Our other lab has sweet breath. We have tried cleaning his mouth with mouthwash but no help. They eat the same food (no table food), and he otherwise seems very healthy. Does anyone have suggestions for my sweet baby boy. He is so lovable but his breath is a problem.

Did you look at all his teeth and gums carefully? Maybe have a vet take a look.

I don't think mouthwash is a very good idea for a dog. It may and probably does contain ingredients that a dog should not swallow.

Do you clean his teeth with a dog formulated paste? It could be teeth/gums or it could be from further down in the gut.

vet should check - I'd suggest that he probably needs a cleaning - there may be some grunge back where you can't see it that is causing the odour

dental health relates very strongly to heart health in dogs particularly in my experience

I don't skimp on dentistries

I agree with the others about checking the teeth very carefully. But, when I switched Kodi from a chicken based kibble to a fish based one her breath cleared up immensely.
