my mom cooks prime rib on christmas day. my job is mashed taters.
my parents are coming by christmas eve night. i just have a few finger foods; shrimp, mushroom logs, meatballs, cheese and grapes and coconut pound cake.
Oh I just thought of something I absolutely loved as a kid! Auntie used to make a chipped beef/cream cheese ball with crackers!!! Where the heck do you get chipped beef though?
My big do is tonight. Christmas Eve I'll be here alone--the kids are all doing in-law things. Christmas Day I go to my MIL's and so do all my kids.
So tonight I'm serving:
I am hosting my traditional chowder supper tomorrow night after mass. The feature being of course, seafood chowder. I have shrimp rings, all varieties of dipd & dip accoutrements, and people are bringing nibbles.
They are pretty easy, and freeze very well.
2 cups grated cheddar, 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon paprika. Blend cheese & butter. Stir in flour, salt, paprika. Mix well. Wrap 1 teaspoon around olives. Arrange on a baking sheet and freeze. Store in a ziplock plastic bag.
Bake 15 minutes at 400.
And Dweck, come on over--I'll fix you a pomegranate martini any time!
Not sure what we'll have Christmas Eve, it's just DH and I. Maybe steak? Christmas Day brunch with my family (the Jews!) we'll have a Honey Baked Ham (really kosher, I know), dijon mustard, rolls for making sammies, scrambled eggs with herb Boursin cheese, cornichons, 7 layer Jello mould (my mom is famous for it!), mixed green salad and homemade cinnamon rolls.
Tomorrow night, we are in charge of garlic bread. Easy peasy!
