I never pay the rack rate or quoted rate. There are tons of hotels that have lost business travel and anyone willling to stay 7 nights will get a good rate. Ask.

Apparently Hotwire.com is amazing. You give the area and # star hotel you want, it quotes you some rates... but you don't know what hotel it is until you book and pay. That's the catch. Hotwire apparently buys up the rooms at a discount, and then sells them off. I mean, a 4-star is a 4-star, and you can specify what amenities you want, etc. Its like a little surprise at the end!
