Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka was shot today. I know you have all heard of him and probably have his songs on your ipod.:)

The ironic part - his name was chosen because it supposedly sounds like the sound of cocking a semi-automatic pistol.

Hello? 80's! Pioneers of rap, Whodini, Rakim, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC dare I say, Beastie Boys, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, Slick Rick...
I never figured you as a fan of rap. :D

It all sucks, IMO. Meanwhile, I have no idea what the meaning of the original post is.

The irony being you name yourself after the sound of gunfire, and you end up getting shot.

Back to the OT, I've never heard of this Flockaseagulls person.
:D

..Well I'll give you Run DMC. But I was thinking more along the lines of Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Ice T, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Notorious BIG, Eminem, DMX, Whitehead Bros, Smooth, Da Brat, Luniz...:)

ICE T... you mean that guy on Law & Order? ;)

(yes yes I know he used to be a rapper... is it ironic that now he plays a cop on TV?)

NWA & Public Enemy yes, but for me, not the rest. I liked the olllld school .
Eazy is his name and boyz comin' straight outta compton...:D How could I leave out NWA.

I like the old school stuff too. :)

What no Snoop? You didnt like Snoop doggie doggggggg. I loved the video to that song with all the people morphing into dogs. I thought they had picked dogs and people that kinda looked a like.

And I loved Favor Flav's crazy dance moves in Public Enemy.

Music fan. I like good music from all genres. I did like Run DMC, "back in the day", and a lot of the older stuff. I can't say I like what they call "rap" these days, though.
There's a lot of fantastic hip hop these days, but it's not on the radio. Recent albums by The Roots, MF Doom, and Mos Def would be a great start. Since I know what a raving nationalist you are, you might appreciate your countryman K'naan. :p K'naan, "Troubadour" was my favorite rap album of 2009.
