Oh boy. Work stuff. I've been forced to comply with the newly implemented "Career Path" program just all the rest of the long-term employees.

You guys know it, one of those HR directives. The dangling carrot. Wanna improove yer status at yer workplace? You been here a gazillion years and know more than we do about how stuff works?

Too bad, sucker! With the new and improved "Career Path" plan, we're gonna make you support our Educational Development Department by requiring you to attend meaningless workshops and seminars they present! We have to justify oursevs!

Not only THAT! Wer gonna make you drive one hour and fifteen minutes fer each required seminar held only on the main campus in Stillwater.

Sorry we can't make it easier fer yuh an' hold these workshop thingies on yer campus, but yer just the medical college so there ya go.

You got 2 years to git it done, ya moron, so get going.

At least the girls and I can take a school car and have lunch at Eskimo Joe's each time.

Yessss....make it fun by pretending that you're skipping out on school! Maybe hit a beach while you're out, or get in a quick trip to the mall. ;) Have fun explaining that suntan!
Oh no, don't tell me you guys are "corporatizing" or "privatizing" as well. It's miserable, and a bunch of 20 somethinger smartarses telling you what you already know...that their newfangled ideas aren't worth a dang thing. Uch...
Yeah, Randi. Like that.

But the "skipping school" idea really appeals to me! :)

I Love this!!! I had a college student tell me today what a behavior plan is!!...................I smiled and said yes I know I'm the one who writes them! I think I started writting them about the time you were born! GGGGGRRRRRRRR
Annoying, isn't girls. Guys?
Pssshhhh....
When I worked for Bank One, we had so many of those stupid seminars and meetings to work on your career path plan...it seemed like it was a weekly thing. I hated them. It was really stupid considering all of us working part-time went to college. They knew we were just there during college, and we told them they were wasting their money. But alas, they made us go, and as predicted we all quit after graduation. A total waste of their money, if you ask me.

I'm hearing about this more and more, what's up with this? It must be another of one Bush's brilliant plans coz it's happening all over the country. A friend who works for the FAA recently told me it's even happening there and that's federal. It's as if they're trying to lower the unemployment rates by pushing in the young and retiring the more experienced...by retiring them (forced retirement) it is not called unemployement. This stinks from the top....
It must be Bush, not demographics. :p Seriously, a lot of areas, especially government, are discovering that they're facing a looming shortfall (a HUGE shortfall) of labor as Baby Boomers begin to retire. It's only natural that the next generation will begin to rotate in...you know, you did it to your parents generation too...only they didn't have an Internet to complain to each other on.
Meetings, seminars, symposiums are the practical work alternative! It's nice to see it happening outside the manufacturing sector. I have sat through countless hours of "production" meetings, one particularly long meeting, I had quipped that while we sit for 3 hours discussing production, the Chinese are making product. I was excused from further production meetings.
::) ::) ::) :mad: :mad: :mad: :( :( :(

I've never been to one of these things that I thought was in any way helpful! Sorry for you.....

Frances
My parents both work for big cabinet/furniture makers in the offices and have both had to do all these stupid seminars. Most for working as a team and that crap having to do all these silly team work exercises like the ones where you catch each other....WTH ..When mom is weeks behind on her work (she's doing 2 peoples jobs) and has to take 2 days out of production time to do these stupid things then they complain she's behind...DUHHHHH
Nance - It's clearly time to actualize and leverage your core career strengths, revitalizing and re-energizing your capabilities to thrust you forward to the job demands of the 21st Century. After all, we can't have you dwelling in the schema of the past, crippled by a professional matrix that hasn't been vetted for true advancement and fullfillment, can we??

Oh, and btw - I think it's cool that your seminar training includes speaking like Glen (delmonico)! Git along there, dogie! ;D ;D ;D
I am so glad my boss to be is of the same thought on these things - she only send us when we have to go to make sure we are meeting requirements and she alwyas sends us together so we have someone to goof off with! Gotta love it when the boss thinks the same way!
nothing like jumping thru the corporate hoops ::)
