I read the article too. Pi..es me off. Just means that we travel by car, or leave HK home. Hmmmm! Better keep the car in shape, because she isn't staying home without me.

I agree with the premise that it's all weirdly priced and not very safe, but that's a really badly written article. The author can't really seem to figure out what they're pissed at, regular airline prices, free kids, the fact that each airline gets to have it's own policy, or what.

While I would never fly mine anywhere, I'm also not looking forward to driving all three dogs the 900 miles to Arizona when we move there next year.

Well, 3 at once may be a problem.

But when Puff and I drive on trips, we're mainly on Interstates and stop every 2 hours at comfort areas for 10-15 minutes of exercise (slinging a Training Dummy for her to fetch). That worked very well for both of us on two separate 3,000 mile trips, one KS → VT → KS and another KS → OR → KS.

This is BS.

Literally. Pets die on planes, particularly when they’re in the cargo hold. According to the Web site ThirdAmendment.com, a total of 109 animals have perished since 2005, most of them dogs. Airlines must report deaths, injuries and losses to the Transportation Department, but the numbers are thought to be artificially low, since animals that aren’t kept as pets or carried on an all-cargo or unscheduled flight aren’t counted.

The dogs that died had pre-existing conditions. The last time I checked.

This line makes it look like the airline was negligent.......that is not the case.

I have flown my dogs many times across the country, while it can get expensive, and stressful for me, it has always been fine for me. I have found most airline people to be helpful and several to be much more to make the trip safe for my dogs.

I did not read the article. But I would never fly any dog of mine. My husband worked at the Toronto Airport and spent quite a bit of time in the cargo area working on computers. He saw how the staff handled the crates and he was not impressed. He said they just toss the crates around with little regard for what is inside of the crate itself.

Well I personal will never fly my dogs anywhere if they aren't allowed to sit in a seat beside me, and my dogs behave better than most people do. I swear he would only hike his leg on the ones that where rude and unacceptable travel companions. paying to put a dog in your purse that wasn't hurting anyone is crazy. what next are they going to charge us to use the toilet on the airplane also. i can see it now $5.00 toilet charge.

We travel a lot however I refuse to fly my dogs. I know people that are okay with it and have great experiences, but I just can't do it. On the note of traveling with 3 dogs, we have had 5-6 in the truck with 3 adults for hours on end traveling to DD events. Mine could not be happier. It's funny to see them all pile on top of each other as pillows and they seem well rested when we get there. Good Luck with your trip to AZ!
