Sign up for a training class. Nothing beats some hands on experience. Ask your vet for information on trainers in your local area.
You should also read the sticky post at the top of this page - "Our Best Advice". Lots of good tips there.
Ditto what Rosie said, best thing I ever didOriginally Posted by Trickster
You can also ask your local lab club if they provide classes.

thank you everyone i def will do the
Just to add to the sentiment. Training classes is also a must for the socialization. I would also suggest trying to go to a class that has different breeds as well, not just Labradors so that they can experience all kinds of different temperaments.Originally Posted by blk lab NY

Basics: sit, stay, come, heel, down, etc.
An obedient pup is such a joy. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy your pup.
I agree with the above posts pertaining to the importance of training classes for socialization. It now depends which you would prefer...
to sign up your pup for an Obedience School, which would help your Lab to get socialized in a group setting, (It's also a great way to meet new people yourself). Or...Hiring a personal trainer. They are good for one on one, personalized type training.
Here's some info on both that you should know before making the choice.
Hope this helps!
