So I was just doing my morning routine and checking my email, etc. I looked up and Ivy was humping Maggie!!! I scolded her which startled her and made her stop, but I'm at a loss, because I didn't think females did this?! I guess I've never seen either one of my girls exhibit this behavior, so I wasn't sure exactly how to handle it...
Sorry I can't offer any help, but I can empathize. Gracie started humping her toys a couple of months ago and now has graduated to humping her dog bed. No people or other dogs yet. But it is :surprise: an icky habit for a little girl.
Although not as common as males, females do hump (not only other females but also other males).
I´m not sure but I think it is dominant related. My old Brownie used to hump once in a while her sister and my friend´s yellow lab (a very dominant girl by the way) humps a lot all other dogs she meets.
It is a dominance thing. Just teach her "Leave it" and correct her every time you see her doing it. She probably won't ever stop doing it, but you can control her actions when you see her doing it.
could be dominance, but I know of a number of dogs that will hump in an attempt to get a play session started. I don't interfere unless it becomes obsessive or if its obvious that the humpee has had enough, or if my human houseguests are embarassed.
My female does it to her dog bed but I don't think it is dominance related. She only does it in the evening, when she wants attention or wants to play. She only humps her dog bed and only when we are in the room watching her.
I think Kaytris is right about starting play sessions for some dogs. This is the case with Ellie.
It's common for females. I had 2 black Pugs - Mother & daughter. They were both spayed but daughter was always humping her Mum. I just put it down to her being a lesbian. I also had a King Charles spaniel who I adopted & she did it to the other dogs. She was also spayed. :suspious:
Maybe we should be making doggy porno movies.
Sam keeps trying to mount Lucky's face though :surprise: I haven't a clue why he does it he's not 'aroused' and I would think if it's a dominance thing he'd be doing it to SU as well....SU is definately not high up in our little heiarchy..I have to call the dogs away from him, they won't listen to him at all especially Sam  I always hear "Brandie get Sam he's not listeninnnnnnngg" (emphasize the whine)

It is a common 'thing' for both .. Males and females: "Just do it!" (just like the Nike slogan  ) .. And it just has everything to do with dominance, and nothing with a sexy thing
It is the same thing as people on the street tell you to F**K OFF :secret:
Tanner, 11 weeks now, started kindergarten last night and did a fair amount of humping during free play. He also tries to do it to my youngest cat. She's a ragdoll and freezes completely and just screams. My instructor said to watch and see if she is somehow instigating this with him. I think he's just full of lab enthusiasm to play and just doesn't get it that cats don't play like that. I wonder if I have a little alpha male here though so far he's been pretty easy to train with humans. Otherwise he's a little sweetie. I was a little embarrassed at class, even though the instructor didn't say anything. I think they were observing them all during free play as it was the first night.
I'll see what happens next week and ask her if he does it again. Do they grow out of this?
my 3 year old female, taylor, humps luke nearly every day. it's her way of initiating play or just because she is in an extra good mood. luke doesn't seem to mind, especially since he answers back with a play bow. mostly we tell her to stop, because it's unsightly for the humans.

And no, they dont grow out of this ... It is a thing such as if you say: "F**k Y**" against bad or other people, and it is also a bit of dominance behaviour. But you can teach him a stop word ...
There nothing to worry about bro. It's a way of behaviour of "dominant" labs. My friend's lab "Ayesha" does this sometimes and we just laugh!
