DefaultHow slowly should I switch my puppy over to a new food??

My almost 8 month puppy Coco has a sensitive stomach. The vet has had her on Iams Veterinary Formulas Intestinal - Low-Residue. We are now trying to switch her over to Solid Gold. I was hoping for some advice on how slow to make the change. We feed her 1 cup of food three times a day. I thought I would introduce the Solid Gold by feeding her instead 3/4 cup of the old, and 1/4 cup of the Solid Gold. I figured after two or three weeks change it to 1/2 cup old, 1/2 cup Solid Gold. Again, wait two or three weeks and then 1/4 old, 3/4 Solid Gold and then after two more weeks just Solid Gold. Does this sound like a slow enough change ??

What is she sensative to? Which solid gold formula are you thinking of switching to? If it were my pup that I had been feeding a vet formula to, I would try switching her to the simplest food I can find....one protein source and one grain source. Barking at the Moon High Protein, Low Carb Adult Dog Food . This is what the vet recommended, and she seems to be doing well on it. I just don't want to make the switch to quickly

Just be careful...I believe Solid Gold's grain free formula is way too high of a calcium level for a puppy.

To answer your original question, yes that's an incredibly slow change. I personally switch mine cold turkey. If I had a dog with a sensative stomach, I'd probably switch over a week...although slower certainly won't hurt anything if you have enough food.

I switch over 6 days, with the 1/3 new for 3 days, 2/3 new for 3 days. No poop grenades doing it this way so far.

For puppies up to 15 months, Orijen is the only grain free food I'd feel comfortable with feeding.

I started my 16-week-old on Orijen. I started with 1/4 cup mixed with his old food to start. He had a very bad diarrhea, so I have brought it down to even less. Have you ever had this problem with this food?

    thanks,
