My lab is about 14 weeks old and was wondering if I should take him to an organized dog meet this weekend where there will be serveral dogs! He is up to date on all his shots, but I heard that you should wait until at 4 months to have your pup around several dogs! I want to socialize him but worry about him getting sick with something!
If you know all these dogs, and know that they are gentle and respectful with puppies, and the adult dogs will be on leash, then maybe. But not if this is an off leash play session with adult dogs that you don't know.
I believe that this is a off-leash event with adult dogs!
then I, myself, wouldn't. Adult dogs, even friendly social ones, can be overwhelming and intimidating to a young puppy, and their experiences now can colour their personality permanently.
How many dogs will there be? Do you know most of them? Since your pup has all their shots if you know the dogs I would probably take him and just keep his leash on or hold him and just see how it goes. I would probably not just let him loose with a bunch of adult dogs just for fear of him getting run over and hurt.
Ditto! Too much too soon, I'd say.Originally Posted by kaytris

I agree, try with just one, preferably an adult gentle female, since they have that "mama" thing inside them that tells them to be gentle around pups.
Also try puppy socialization lessons, those are great fun and they make really good friends there.
