I have a nine week old puppy who seems to drink a lot of water. I know he plays hard & that would make him thirsty, but how much water should he be drinking? Also, what time of night should we cut him off from water?
As much as he wants to drink. Don't cut him off.
When Angus was a pup we gave unlimted water all day (still do) but none after 7pm.
Same here. Unlimited all day, cut off at 7-7:30 to assist in housetraining, then as soon as she caught on to letting us know she needed out, unlimited.Originally Posted by eastcoastmom

Our water cut-off is at 7:30pm and Abbey goes to bed at 9:30pm. She drinks a LOT during the day! When she piddles on the floor it looks like water, it's so pale. Not to mention she pees every 10-15min during playtime/daytime. Yet she can hold it 8.5hrs during the night.
That's what we did too, it worked great for both of my boysOriginally Posted by eastcoastmom
My vet whom we saw last Monday told us that Milly should only be drinking 100mL's of water per 1kg of puppy weight. So for us that is 800mL's of water. She said too much water is not good for her (I wasn't real sure about this) but when I look at her bowl 2 bowlful's would probably equal a litre so I guess she's only just over the 800mL mark if she drinks two bowlfuls.
So for Imperial 800mLs is 27 ounces? and 8kg's is 17lbs and 1kgs is 2.2lbs
I dont know if she is right but that is what she told us last week
Our Marley is 14 months old and still drinks a lot of water (I have never seen a dog to drink that much!). We asked the vet about it and she said that it is perfectly normal and typical for labs. So we just let him drink as much as he wants to.
I tried the cutting off of water last night to try to get Denali to sleep through the night.....but I couldnt do it the poor fella had a terribble dream while he was sleeping in the living room while we were watching tv and as soon as he woke he went rate for his water..I say that if he wants a drink then Ill just have to be a man and get up and take him out when he wakes at 2am..lol.
Cooper is now almost 14 weeks old. We only pick up the water that is outside (due to frogs), but we leave the water in the kitchen down for him. He doesn't seem to drink as much water as he used to & thankfully he can make it through the night now.
