My lab is 41/2 months old. I have been getting up in the middle of the night and early in the morning to take her outside for a potty. In the last week or so, she has been very hard to wake up and even when I pick her up and take her outside she sometimes doesn't go. My question is, is she too young to be able to hold it through the night? I don't mind taking her, but if I don't need to, I won't pass up the chance to sleep through the night.
Let me get this straight, you are waking your lab up to take her out in the middle of the night? Stop. If she's not asking to go, she doesn't need to go. She is totally capable of holding it all night. My lab is 10 weeks old and sleeps 7-8 hours a night. If he needs out before my alarm goes off in the morning he whines and I take him, but usually it's only about 30 minutes before my alarm goes off.
Thanks for the reply. I was going on what I've read about puppies not being able to hold it for more than 3-4 hrs in the first few months.
Mine slept through the night after the first week home.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
My pup is 4.5 months old also - and has been sleeping through the night since we got him at 3 months. We take him out around 10-11 pm for final potties and then he's in his crate till my husbands alarm goes off - for the second time at 6:45am.
Honestly - I would let her wake you up if she has to go. Chances are she will sleep through the night - and you can get a little more sleep. If I remember my research correctly - its 3-4 hours during the day - but double that if it's evening sleep.
