    DefaultPulling

    Hi to all !

I have a 5 month old Lab. When we go for a walk he is pulling like crazy all the time and he eats everything he can find.
And I mean everything... glass, plastic, bottle caps and so on.

Would a "gentle leader" be the right thing to buy or is something else I could try ?

Thanks for reading and suggestions !

Right around that age I started using the prong collar. Best thing ever. I stil use once in awhile now.

have you tried the training techniques yet? Or is that a silly question?
If you haven't, they seem pretty straigh-forward and as long as you do most of it in the beginning without any distractions i think it to be quite successful.

I suggest the "Easy Walk" from Gentle Leader.

I laugh so much when I read some of these postings! You are NOT alone. We have an 8 month old lab(Duke) and had a lot of learning to do. We've come along way but there'll will be lots more learning as we go. Walking him use to be a nightmare, but with consistant training we are doing very well and our walks now are something we look forward to. You need to teach him that YOU are in control. We are using a prong collar. A quick tug will show him his behavior is not acceptable. Just stay with it and be consistant...he's a just a baby and will be very eager to please once he knows what is acceptable and what isn't.

Two words: Prong Collar. I just had my first success the other day with it on our 4 month old lab. It was like night and day. Truly. I had a private trainer come to our house for one hour and she taught me the proper way to use it, and it was the best money I ever spent. I couldn't believe how far we walked and how great our little girl did!! Give it a try, but make sure you have it fit properly. I think there is a thread in here about that somewhere. Good luck!!
