DefaultHow long before she can handle stairs?

We worked on the stairs a little bit yesterday. Shelby did ok with going up (with some treat enticement), but not going down. She's 10 weeks now. At what age do you think she should be getting the hang of the stairs? They're necessary for her getting into the backyard, and she's getting heavy! The plus side of her not going up and down on her own though is I'm getting quite a workout. Up and down a full flight of stairs at least every half hour...I'm starting to feel the burn. LOL.

One of my dogs didn't brave the stairs until he was about 18 months!

What I would do is have her on a leash or harness and guide her down the steps very slowly. After she does it the first time she will have no trouble.

Use treats on each step. That's what worked for Gabby.

I think Gabs was about 12 weeks when she ventured down by herself.

I used the treats to get her to go up, but I guess her apprehension beat out the lure of the treat when it was time to go back down. We'll keep working on it.
