I've been giving Rowan 12" bully sticks for chewies and beef ears as well. I am just wondering at what size I should take them away and dispose of them as I don't want her choking. KWIM??
I don't think I've ever taken bully sticks away....he eats the whole thing. The only time I take something away is, say he broke a piece off a big bone from the butcher shop...sometimes the bones aren't just straight marrow, but have a couple of joints to them...when that's really small that he's chewing on the whole thing in his mouth, I throw those away (most of the time he just chews on the bone; it's only if there's a smaller piece he can fit whole into his mouth that I throw it away, say 2-4").
I'd say use your own judgement, if you're nervous about her chewing on the last bits that are small, throw 'em away.
We usually don't take the bully sticks away from Clarence. When they get really small, he chews on them "paws-free" (It looks like he's chewing gum!) and then swallows them when they're too small to chew/small enough to swallow. Never had a problem choking.
I have never taken a Bully Stick away from Sadie. She just chews them until they are gone.
Good to know! Thanks everyone!!
