We started CoCo's intermediate obedience class last night... so before the class I took CoCo for a 30minute walk and REALLY worked on her heeling (we weren't going anywhere unless she was healing)... and she did GREAT!* I was so impressed.* I mean, it did take a lot of hip tapping, and fairly consistent click n' treats, but she really only pulled when there were other dogs around... I even kept her attention as we passed a few people... this is a BIG step for us!!
So in class, we practiced some heels while turning... not as good with the other dog distractions, but a quick correction got her in place and she did a few successfully.
Then we did "walking downs".... oh boy!* Need some work here... since CoCo isn't firm on her downs from a standing position to begin with, its a stretch to expect her to drop down during a walk, lol!* We'll work on that this week though, so that by next class she is ON!
I just really enjoy having some structure and even some competitiveness in these classes!* Next class we start using a targeting stick to teach go to your mat/bed/etc... and we'll also work on down-stays from a distance!* Woo hoo!

ok... note to self... sign up for a damn obedience class
lol, Lindsay! It shocked the hell outta me, so don't be too jealous, as it could be a fluke!
You should definitely sign up for another class, too bad we couldn't go together - that would really up the performance ante! lmao!

Pssst.... I think it's "heeling" as well....
Of course... having a lab pup IS healing as well but Ender has done that from day one
I know I know... schedules and with Eric out of town for a week at a time because of work... it's been making scheduling a class difficult.
LOL! OOPS! Thanks... I'll edit my title anyhow... haha...Originally Posted by Ender's Mom
