I was wondering what everyone gives their puppies to chew on besides Nylabones. Lindy loves the Booda Velvet Bimples and it's nice because she takes about a week to finish off one of them. The lady at the pet store said something about bully sticks and pig ears but (yes, call me a big baby) the thought of that makes me sick. What do you give your dogs that takes a while to chew?
Alot of people give raw marrow bones. Just make sure that you scrape out most of the marrow the first time you give the bone. (Save the marrow and repack it into the bone for the next time). I would only give the bone for a limited amount of time the first few times -- just to make sure that no tummy upset occurs.
You can freeze the bones and reuse them. They are available in many grocery stores.
Nylabones are big hit around here ... Sami would love to have pig ears, bully sticks, etc, but I just don't give them anymore. (We had an obstruction scare w/ rawhide).
We have used all the mentioned chew objects. We have also used bully sticks. Sambuca loves them! They are digestible and not as fatty as pig ears. We do watch him and throw out any small pieces. So far no problems. A frozen kong with yogurt and banannas is favorite around here! Also, torn up bread in a kong can entertain for sometime! Good luck!
We use frozen kongs, nylabones, and Adama's new favorite- a nobbly-wobbly. Our neighbor recommended it (she has a 3 yr bkack lab) and said that he's a big chewer, but had yet to destroy it. It feels like the plastic kongs are made from.
