I need advice..Magic will not walk on a leash. He goes crazy when I put it on him. Jumping around like a maddog! I have tried to just let him walk around the house with it on and drag it aroound but then he just chews on it. He is 4 months old and I am sure I should have started sooner but I didnt..any advice..
Teach SETTLE, LEAVE IT, and HEEL, in that order.
I would continue letting him drag the lead around the house but DISTRACT him while he has it on. Naturally, if you just leave him to his own devices with it strapped on, he is going to wander what the heck that thing attached to his neck is! for all he knows the leash is just a play thing. At 4 months he is old enough to start going on short walks. Take him to the front door and make him sit. Strap the leash on, have a treat or toy (whatever he works best for) by your side, and have him heel. Keep these sessions short --no more then 5 minutes. Remove the lead immediately as you come through to door. In the house use the same principle. Head into your back yard, put the leash on and throw a ball around...hide treats...run...whatever. Just keep him distracted away from the lead!
Thanks I will just keep working with him!
