    DefaultCrates

When school is out I will start looking for supplies for my new puppy. I was thinking about trying to find some items at a garage sale around...especially like a crate. Is there anything special besides some soap and water I would need to clean it out and prepare it?

What about a bed that is in good shape?

Has anyone done this and what is the downside?

Just remember... dog beds are absorbant and you may not want to put that in the crate with him when he's young and not potty trained.

Yeah...I didn't word that well. I was going to put an old blanket in the crate but I was thinking of getting a bed for like when I am home and watching tv or working and could put the bed nearby so my puppy could nap a little more comfortably.

But I was thinking of getting a crate pad...I guess that's not a good idea?

Well I dunno.... just didn't want to set yourself up for failure. Ender never went in his crate and hopefully you'll have the same success!!

Ender's favorite "bed" in the living room is a big pillow from the couch... not his $60 cedar filled doggie bed.

What kind of materianl do you use for Ender's crate? Now that you mention it my dog will love my couch...we will probably have to fight over it for the SUnday afternoon nap.. ;D

In the colder months we used a fleece blanket.

Now he has some flannel sheets in there... but sleeps on our bed...

    Shhhh... don't tell anyone.

    tell anyone what..lol ;D ;D

I have some old sheets I could put in there would probably be the best thing. I have a horror of my puppy getting tangled up in sheets and suffocating...

lol.... silly... we all have our little paranoias Maybe you can put a doggy bed in there... like at night when he's sleeping... I'm just not sure I'd do it during the day right away when he's being crated and not potty trained yet.
