DefaultIn need of your opinion on this trainer..

Can someone tell me what kind of training this guy is doing? http://www.k9care.com/ I have read through his site and i can not for the life of me find any clear cut answer on what sort of method he is using to get a dog to be a "perfect dog" and im not keen on handing over money when im not sure what will be going on!

Your instincts and reservations are correst.

    Honor them

There is nbothing said on the website that gives any hint of the suibstance of the training.

Rather than getting a trainer, my recommendation is to train the owner.

There are 2 parallel routes that I think are helpful.

#!A Buy "Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson

    #1B Read the book

#1C Do what the book says

#2A Find a group obedience training class through your local Parks & Rec., dog club, PetsMart, etc.

#2B Sign up, attend, and get your training techniques assessed & corrected

Well, wherever you go for training, you won't be able to assess much from their ad or website. Interview the trainer. Ask about his/her methods. Settle on one you are comfortable with.

Alot of beginning training will be basic obedience to enable you to have a dog you can live with. Obedience classes and clubs can take you to the level you need for competition. Alot of your decision will be based on what you want to do with your dog. Remember obedience training is the base for anything that you do with your dog. Most of all have fun learning with your dog.

A good trainer will be upfront about whatever methods he/she chooses to use. In addition to interviewing a trainer, I would also ask to see them in action - whether observing a class or shadowing a private session (with permission of the owner)

You can do a trainer search here (there are also tips on selecting a trainer) http://www.apdt.com

thanks guys& gals with the email i just got back from him regarding his rates... THROUGH THE ROOF! I would be better off looking elsewhere especially when he is beating around the bush with answering any questions.. he doesnt seem like a person i would really want to associate with. so im still searching. Although a lady in my neighborhood has trained many dogs and shown many dogs so she said if i need / want any help she would come over and help.

but im still looking! 5 hours til we bring hami home!
