Hi. I have a 13 week old Yellow Lab name Riley. I have been crate training him since we got him (he was 6 weeks). The crate is in the main living area during the day and we move the crate to our bedroom at night. He is good in the crate at night, and good during the day to take naps….as long as someone is home. When he is in his crate and no one is home, he FREAKS out. He barks continually and jumps up on the crate. I'm assuming its separation anxiety and don't know what to do. The maximum he has been left alone is 2 hours. He threw a temper tantrum 99% of the time. I know this because we have a puppy cam. Also, I have another Yellow Lab that is 7 (Cooper). Cooper never had issues with the crate, so I am at a loss. Cooper is free in the house 24/7.
Can someone offer some advice?
Please and thank you.
your pup may not like being separated from cooper who is free in the house
Have you played with the puppy to tire him out before you take him to potty, then crate him and leave? Leaving him for 2 hours shouldn't be a problem if he's done so well otherwise. Can you try leaving for short periods, then gradually increasing the time away? Also, you might leave the TV or radio on while you're gone.

google crate games by susan garrett. there are some great free youtube videos. there are sthree steps.
also make it a good place. Feed the dog in the crate, randomly throw in high value treats in there.
when you crate the dog put them in with a kong or something to keep them busy.
