I'm thrilled to find these forums and see other people have the same difficulties I do! My eleven week old lab x puppy constantly walks just in front of me, but turned backwards to see me (craning her neck or walking sideways). Is this normal?
My first thought was that she is of the opinion that she is the pack leader. I have done everything I can think of to dissuade her. She isn't allowed to eat until I say 'okay', I make sure to go through doors before her as often as possible and on our walks (which, due to vaccinations, have only just started) I make her heel and use the 'stop, turn back' method if she pulls.
I love her dearly and appreciate that she wants to be close by but it is dangerous to both of us when she is slowing down before me and I am tripping over her constantly.
Any help would be appreciated.
i wouldn't worry so much about the pack leader stuff, just try getting her to heel. hold a treat in your fist, while saying heel and praising her.
there are some new theories about walking thru the door first and that kind of stuff and if i can find the link i will repost.
Sounds like not serious thing to me but you definitely need to observe her for any disobedient behavior, ensuring you are the leader. I would do more happy moments with her so she would be more attached to you and respect you as master.
