Help with Toilet Training

Hi,

We seem to be going backwards with our Labrador who is coming onto 6 months old.

Millie sleeps in the kitchen as this is tiled. We have an XL Crate which she sleeps in on a bed.

We can't go a full night without Millie weeing in the kitchen when we come down in the morning, and also the occasional #2 also.

At 6 months, we feel she should be much better with the toilet training.

On top of this, over the past few days we have nipped out the house for 2 hrs at a time, and each time we have come back and she has had a wee in the kitchen.

She also does this in the same place each time, infront of the door leading to the living room. What makes it worse is that she has no problems with lying in her own wee either.

Does anyone have any advice for us? We are at the end of our tether with it :(

I would put her back in the crate 24/7 only coming out when being watched very carefully. I'd also put vinegar or natures miracle over the spots she likes to use the bathroom on. It seems mean to crate up a 6 month old, but it helps tremendously with potty training and she won't hate you for it!

Is she in the crate and peeing in the crate? or in the kitchen? If in the kitchen - go back to crating, door closed.

what time are you letting her out at night for last pee, and are you SEEING her pee or assuming she pees?

Is the poop at night an "extra" poop or does this happen when she hasn't done all her daily poops?

I let her out just before bed - say 9pm as the earliest and the norm. I always go outside with her, but she only pees 8/10 times.

We take up her water around 8pm unless the weather is warm where we will leave it. Being England, the climate is usually more cool or cold.

She sleeps in the crate, pees in the kitchen. We get up between 5am and 6am too.

Not too sure on the poop front to be honest. It isn't as common and the pee, which is daily.

Close the door of the crate!!

Also, do you use an odour neutralizing product to clean the accidents?

The thing is, the longer it goes on the more ingrained the behaviour will be. It needs to be nipped in teh bud NOW, each night she goes, the more familiar nad routine the peeing at night will be. If she has been doing this non stop since you got her and hse is 6 months, her body is now totally used to peeing in the middle of the night. It's what her body expects now. She isn't going to stop for the heck of it, this is working for her.

Many thanks for all the advice.

Touching wood, for the past 2 nights things have been much better. We immediately put her in the crate the first night and locked her in. We braced ourselves for a night of barking - we gone none. Woke up to a dry and clean kitchen AND crate.

Not wanting to tempt fate, we repeated the same last night - and we got the same results. A clean and dry kitchen and crate!

So tonight is night #3 and we are hoping for much of the same. The crate seems to have worked wonders in this way :)
