    DefaultNeed help!! its very frustrating

    Hi All,

It may be a repeat question but my frustration is growing every day and need all the help I can get. Its about Paris - some of you may remember that a few days back I have posted regarding the change in his behavior on leash. From that day onwards, after reading all the suggestions, we have been working together to make him calmer and he progressed a lot. But now, on one had he is very calm and relaxed when he is on leash, but as soon as there is anyone is in the proximity, he just goes crazy - jumping, pulling even when he is choking. Now that he is almost 50 pounds, it is really difficult to control him plus its really frustrating.

It so happens that I have a lot of kids in and around my house and everytime I take Paris out for relieving him, some one is always around and then the drama starts. I have been training him on leash in the house, as well as in some distractions in the night when no one is around and he has been doing really good. The only problem is when he sees people. I have also taken him for socializing with some dogs in the neighborhood and since then he does not run towards other dogs to play. but what needs to be done for this human magnet? I have even tried to carry some treats in my pocket and as soon as I anticipate that he is going to pull now, I make him sit and give him a treat. but the moment he has gulped it, he goes crazy all over again!!!

This is really frustrating and I have no clue what more can I do.

Thanks for reading such a long post.

Socialise him with the humans as well ? If the locals are not friendly then get some other friends to come over from elsewhere.

I don't know if this will help, but mine get "good leave it treats" as we're walking. It goes like this: walking past a barking dog behind invisible fence, I say "leave it" as we walk by without incident and as soon as we pass, they are rewarded with their "good leave it treat". If they pull toward the distraction, just keep walking at the same pace. Bruno gives me the "give good leave it treat" look whenever we pass any dog, cat, bike, jogger, etc.

Believe me he is more socialized with humans than dogs. my friends come home very often and I even leave him at my friends a lot. reading a lot on internet and try out different things.

mitziandjudysmom, the "leave it" trick seem to be working a little bit. Need more time to see if he improves.

    Thanks all.

We had trouble with Sophie till we got her a non-pull harness. Petco Black Non-Pull Mesh Dog Harness - Control and Adjustable Dog Harness from petco.com Once we put her in the harness it was so much easier to train her.
