Should I never put the puppy in the crate if Im home? Or let him run around?

Depends on what is going on, and how old the puppy is. If it is a young puppy, and needs constant supervision, I would crate him whenever you can't watch him.

Sometimes a puppy needs a time out or you are unable to supervise and there is nothing wrong with using the crate then. I always made sure to give a stuffed Kong or high value treat when I needed to use the crate in this way. Keeping the crate a positive place is important.

Agree wtih the above. I wouldn't crate a dog for long when I am home. But if the puppy is young they should be crated if you are not supervising (and cannot tether - say if it is just you and the puppy and you are in the shower). It is also good to get a dog used to being crated when you are home. But I wouldn't do it for long periods.

Yes, I stuff Kongs with mashed banana, small amount of kibble from one of the meals and a little bit of plain yogurt and freeze. You can use all kinds of fruit and vegetables as well as a small amount of peanut butter. Keeps them busy for a while.

i put kibble in hte kong. i fill it halway with kibble, put a small tablespoon of peanut butter, then add more kibble to the top. when the dog knows how it works I stick it in the freezer to make it slightly harder for them to get it.

my boy isn't crated so I just toss it to him when I leave, but fosters gets it in their crate.

make them go? to the washroom? more more than their breakfast does which is fed before work. I do calculate the kibble in the kong and reduce breakfast by more or less that amount, so it's mostly part of their breakfast. And I am not putting much peanut butter.
