    Red face4 days!

Only 4 more days until we bring Kai home!! It seems like it has been an eternity, and I guess it has... We started the process of researching labs and looking for breeders back in September! We just moved into our new apartment on Friday, so unpacking and puppy proofing has been a process! We have her crate ready, bed ready, a blanket, plenty of toys, a puppy kong, food & water bowls laid out, food is bought, we are in the process of creating a binder to put all of her vet information, training information (like what commands we are using for everything), etc. All we are missing is Kai! Any last minute tips for a new puppy owner? I am super excited, but also nervous! Friday is going to be a great day!

No last minute tips--you sound like you've covered everything. Friday will be here before you know it. Congrats on your new puppy Kai.

Is this your first pup? The thing I will say is expect the unexpected. I think we all feel we have planned for everything and have a concept of how things will go with pup but often they toss us a bit of a curve ball. The toughest part of a dog human relationship is the first bit of time where they are being house trained and the 1st few days of pup being with new friends and away from it's sisters and brothers. Puppies can scream like banshees the 1st night or two so be ready for that. Having said all of that the diligence you put in in the 1st month or so of pups training gets paid off 100 times over if you stick to the plan. After a bout a month it is all gravy for years to come. You are going to love being a lab owner. )

This is my first puppy, but not my first dog. Adrian's family had a puppy, but he was just a kid when they were raising it.. So it should be something! haha.. Thanks so much for the advice! I know it is definitely going to be hard work, especially in the beginning, but well worth it!

I will throw in my two cents here since I am in a similar situation. I have owned a lab before but never a puppy - picked up our Ranger on march 2 at 8 weeks - and just to warn you it has felt like one long day since then .

It's been great, but way more work than we had expected.

One thing that helped us get thought the first nights was to move his kennel near our bed so that we could comfort him if he got scared or lonely....after two nights we moved the kennel to its perm location in the living room and he has been great with the kennel ever since.

Sounds like you are pretty prepared - my second tip would be to leverage this forum because it is filled with a lot of great advice and active posters!

    Have fun and be patient
