Hi! My name is Kate and I'm so pleased to have found these forums. A few weeks ago we adopted an adorable black puppy ( named Darcy) who is now 14 weeks old. We all love her and she has already picked up toilet training and some basic commands (sit and lie down) already.
I just wondered whether you all thought she was pure lab or a lab mix? We have had many differing opinions including border collie/lab mix (although she has no white markings on her), lab/chow (can't see it) and German sheperd/lab (personally I think that's the right guess!)
So what do you all think?
Hi Kate, I find it hard to tell with just one picture but whatever she's mixed with, she's one beautiful pup.
Congratulations on your choice
She's a cutie! She's a mix, you can tell by the high set of her ears. It's hard to say what she is mixed with, but whatever it is, she's precious.

Yup, a mix of some sort. Very cute though!

She's yours and you love her......all that matters at this point. Mine was sold to me as "pure" lab, but without papers, who knows....after I had him for about 10 minutes I was in love and didn't care. Enjoy your beautiful girl.
She looks very sweet. How big is she? A friend of mine has a dog that structurally looked very similar Darcy (especially her face / muzzle / ear set) as a puppy. Their dog is mostly black, but has longer / fluffier fur. The rescue that they got him from was pretty sure it was an Australian Shepherd/Lab mix. If Darcy was a little fluffier, she would look exactly like their dog. A German Shepherd / Lab mix is definitely plausible.

Some people are like slinkies. Not really good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
She's definately a mix, but I doubt it really matters much. I am sure she is loved alot by your family!
Thanks everyone. I know it doesn't matter, it's just interesting to speculate. She is 3.5 months and 20lbs.
When we got her a few weeks ago, her ears were much more floppy. In the last week they have started going 'up'. I remember the same thing happened with the GSD puppy we had, eventually her ears stood fully upright. I'll be interested to see if Darcy's end up doing the same.
So glad I found this place. You all have such beautiful dogs.
