Duke is almost 9 months now. He has been an awesome addition to the family. One thing though...I cant get him to retrieve! We go to "play" in the backyard and if I throw something for him he might go get it, but wont bring it back to me (even if I have a treat). Its obvious he wants me to chase him to try to get the toy... So, with that said, it usually just ends up being me standing out there while he does his own thing! I was considering working with him on a long line so I could "reel" him in after he gets the toy but thought I would check here first.
Yes to the long line. Also try multiple toys
Charlie (foster) and Rocky
The only advice I would have would be, get so excited, 'clever boy, well done, come see etc etc sure you know how it goes. If there is no response, walk or run away and he should follow, then praise for coming back, give a treat, or if he's thought to heel, try heel. Only tips I've got, not a lot sorry but hope it helps.
Remembered another bit of advice I got which seemed to work. Don't take the toy off them every single time, sometime just praise and let them have a chew of it for a bit, they earned it after all. Then get them to leave and throw again or throw a diff toy, if they know you are just going to take it off them every time and they want to play with it they won't come back to you. Then just stop that once they are happy coming back to you every time.
