I got my puppy a few days ago and have some questions on feeding. I bought the puppy from a breeder and I assume the breeder left a bowl of food for all the puppies and let them all eat when they feel like it.
Now that I have him, this is a little problem. There breeder was feeding him twice a day and I am doing the same. I feed my pup at 6am and 6pm. The problem is that he wanders around and does not eat in one sitting. This is a problem because in the morning my time is limited and I want him to eat everything at once, but he does not. In the evening, I feed him and leave his dish around and he wanders around and gets wrapped up in playing. Or he starts drinking his water? I am affraid he is getting full on water
Is it alright to only leave his dish out for 15 mins and take it away even if he has not eaten much? I was thinking about switching him to 3 times a day per the vet.
Any tips on making the pup eat everything at one time?
feed in the crate. and if he is a baby, I would feed three times not twice a day.

How much are you feeding?
Three times a day. Twice is not enough. There are members here that prefer their pups eat in one sitting, and others who allow their pups to graze as yours does. Both have advantages. Puppies who graze usually don't wolf their food down to the point that you have to work at slowing them down. Eating too fast isn't good. It sounds like your puppy is easily distracted and wonders off and comes back. You might try putting him where there is less stimulation. In his crate or a room he can't roam around in. Good luck, but I would feed 3 times a day.

I think I have figured it out. He was being feed twice a day by the breeder so I continued that when I got him. I am gradually transitioning him to 3 times a day.
I kept on saying "eat your food" when he was eating. So now when he starts to wander I just say eat your food and he comes back. I also stand beside him and he usually doesnt go any where.
